Queen Felecia Williams
How We Met
When most people invite their friends to a restaurant, they expect the usual:
Slide four tables together, drop off 16 cups of water, bring one dessert with 7 spoons and everyone pays for their own meal. Then, peace out.
In 2015, Felecia Williams changed the game. I was leaving Shreveport headed to graduate school in New York City.
When I arrived at the restaurant, Felecia had booked, decorated and filled a private room just for me. The amount of love stopped me in my tracks.
The celebration was reminiscent of one of the final scenes in Antwone Fisher. He meets his biological family for the first time and they celebrate him with a spread fit for a king. I don't know Antone's pain, but I share his joy. My heart was overwhelmed by all the people who showed up for me. The night was especially important because Felecia added the personal touch.
I lived in Shreveport for two years, but it didn't take long for me to recognize that God sent me to Felecia so that she could take care of me. Little did I know, I was also my sister's keeper.
Our first acquaintance was the most hilarious sitcom skit that never happened.
A few weeks before I left Fort Myers for Louisiana, I met a man who heard about my new job. He gave me contact information for two women: Dr. Cynthia Montgomery and Felecia Williams. Dr. Montgomery became my gynecologist and Felecia became.... well, here's what happened when I called her spa.
Operator: My Spa My Way. How may I help you?
Me: Hi, My name is Georgia Dawkins and I'm looking for Felecia Williams.
Operator: She's not in right now. May I take your number? I'll have her call you back.
60 seconds later...
Caller: Hey, girl! It's me.
Caller: Felecia. That was me on the phone.
Felecia: Sorry. I had a client in front of me and I didn't want her to know I was the owner.
That is a conversation that I will laugh about for the rest of my life. You can say it was love at first lie.
Felecia was the first person to show me what life was like as a full-time entrepreneur. I don't care what you say, representation matters. I have spent countless hours at her spa. I went there for everything: manicure, pedicure, brow wax, wash and set, counseling, lunch... #younameit!
I'd show up on my lunch break just to vent, but we never had a moment alone. My outbursts of frustration were often interrupted by knocks at the door and numerous phone calls. I didn't mine because she was showing me how to be a boss.
In the good times and in the bad, I have learned how to endure by watching her thrive. I can't wait to see what God does in this next chapter.
Felecia, you are too dope for words.
