How We Met
Roaming the aisles of the campus career fair, a familiar face caught my eye. She was the high-energy recruiter from Nielsen collecting resumes and taking names. I didn’t even want a job. I just wanted her name.
Lauren Grant graduated from Florida A&M University’s School of Business and Industry when I was only a freshman. I don’t remember us ever having a conversation, but I never forgot the way she made me feel in her presence.
Lauren has a regal countenance, and I am proud to call her my mentor.
Scrolling through eight years of Facebook conversations and emails, I am reminded of the strength of our relationship. From job searches to housing to simple “hey boos,” our foundation is love.
Lauren would do anything to see me succeed, and I would do the same for her. That is the sisterhood we all deserve.
Lauren is the career plug. She always knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who you absolutely need to know. I’m proud to be a part of her network. I’m never bothered when she reaches out to me. I’m always honored to talk to an aspiring journalist or Rattler who needs a source.
When you lean on someone else’s wisdom for so long, it’s a blessing to be a resource for them in times of need.
In true millennial fashion, Lauren abandoned corporate America in 2016 to invest in her company full-time. Her sacrifice stirred up something in me. “If Lauren can, then so can I.”
No matter my age or job title, I’m still the freshman who wants to be just like her when I grow up.
You are light and you are love.
